Evaluation
This Documentary was a long process to complete for the first draft if feedback ever effects it but the main process of this was originally going to be multiple other cultures and after some though, I came to the conclusion that it was too much to mention multiple different cultures so instead, I thought to myself that I should stick to one particular culture and after some communication with other people, I decided that my main topic for the documentary would the culture of football. The documentary was edited on Adobe Premiere Pro and a good majority of footage was recorded using a Canon DSLR Camera, these were the key equipment to the completion of my documentary as Adobe premiere pro was the best and probably only best editing software that I could use for the making of this documentary. The usages of Premiere Pro was different settings as in the effects that made some of the video possible and those effects were somethings like cross dissolve settings which covered most of the footage when it was changing to the next one and the audio transitions were exceptionally useful when it came to transitioning audio to narration lines and what was my personal favourite edits of my own were the uses of graphics provided by Adobe as there were a large of majority of effects that I could use for my documentary and the transitions worked very well with them as they provided more interest and my hopes are the same for the audience that watch this documentary.
This image was taken outside the Stadium of Light where it was one of the places where this one of the few scenes where it was me recording in front of the camera and this was one of my personal favorite out of the scenes where I talked in front of the camera and this is because it takes place in an area where it is not in the college grounds and it also shows a good sense of scenery when watching over that particular scene. My initial plan was to have it in front of the stadium but instead I decided to take the film in front of the statue of Bob Stokoe as this was a good spot for a majority of reasons and they are there were no other people around at the time and so it was a nice and sort of quiet area for now until certain cars would drive past but that was no big issue, another reason would be that it would be respectable to film in front of the statue as it would show appreciation to Bob Stokoe and finally a good reason was that the scenery and time of day were just right for the film and when I filmed this, I made sure to do multiple takes until I managed to get the right footage and when that was complete I made sure to rewatch over the footage to make sure no mistakes were made and to make sure the audio was fine enough for the audience to hear it, the equipment used for this was the same as the other footage used as they were things like a Tripod and a Canon DSLR but I used my iPhone 11 to read through the lines so that I wouldn't get mixed up.

This image was from the footage of the final scene of my documentary and the location of this scene is the back fields of the college grounds and this was a good scene because it was recorded very nicely when doing the filming for the footage and when this was done, I had assistance from some of my classmates where they would direct my lines and help out with managing the camera, this took some time to do as I had to record two different parts of the documentary where I did both a narration part and then a shot where it includes me saying some lines before walking off and the scene then cuts to the end credits. The audio for this scene was done nicely and prepared well because the current weather that day was fairly windy and it would be hard to film speaking with the wind in the way but I managed to time it right before the wind started blowing again although it came to an end by the time the recording started. The equipment used for this footage was provided by the college as the gear that was used was things like a Tripod and the Canon DSLR Camera which was used for a good majority of the film and the final equipment used which was not provided by college was my iPhone 11 which was used to go through the lines that needed to be said.
Intentions
My intentions for a majority of clips and choices throughout this process were mostly decided by certain issues that happened during the process of these edits and such examples were some of the audio choices as some of those audio clips were not very well produced and this was an example for a good bunch of other voice clips as some had to be redone to better quality and better hearing to make sure the audience could hear the clips more better as the video would progress. Other intentions would be things like choice of clips and what to specifically include in that clip, an example of this would be in the clip where the interviews were taking place and in some of them, It felt like something needed to be included as the first intention was just to let the interviews play along but after thinking and editing it, I decided to have certain images shown to make it more unique as the interviewee would explain about their answer and in results for this change, it proved very efficient when watching over the video. Final intentions for this documentary would be the choice of already existing content to be included as these played a big part in the video such as the drone camera angles which proved very efficient for the final product as when it was the narration, it showed different sequences in some parts of the location it was set at which was Bede College, another reason for my main intentions for the usage of certain content was to show that some footage was hard to get as in some parts it was a challenge getting footage and I could only get what I could so the main usage of other videos would help as long as I gave credit in the final edit which is what I had done.
Intentions before changes
The start of the main intention was to have a simple intro where it would slowly appear into the first scene which would have probably been a field or something nearby and then it would cut into other places that were recorded but this was scrapped and replaced with a better and more well edited idea as this was the main intro for my documentary so having a good intro was a key importance to me and to have that completed was a good factor for the progression of this documentary, the changes was that I had effects added while music played in the background which shows more creativity that what the first intention was going to be and having that while comparing it to what the other plan was, it was a major improvement and still is when rewatching the final product fully completed. Another intention before change would be the decision of the interview choices as the people involved were not the first idea that I had intended to do but in fact the first interviewees I had planned to interview to begin with were two of my family members and someone in my college class but then this was changed due to decisions by me to have 4 total interviews in one video as the new ones I had asked for help were 2 students in an A level media course and 1 in my course who has a good knowledge of football, finally the last interview was a family member who was a referee in profession and had been for some time now. Finally the last intention before a change was the outro which had numerous different ideas for the plan of it, the first was to have a generic intro like audience members see in a film but that didn't really work with me and the other idea was to have just a simple thank you to the audience for watching the video but in the end, I made some edits and in the final testing, I made the outro a good amount of duration time and showing both effects and appreciation to those who took part and also giving each name a good showing until the next one and then until the video ended. This took me a good amount of time to plan and think about which was a good showing of technical skills as with the planning and showing of edits in the video.
Deconstruction of the main project
This product shows meaning because it shows the targeted audience my main idea and how I have constructed it into a 10 minute video, this product shows a good amount of information to get show my idea off to those who watch it. The communication used in this product whilst it was being made was a good showing of how important it was to my main product as I had to arrange a certain amount of interviews to show off to the audience how some people view my idea with their own opinions and it was demonstrated at how much of the interviewees had to mention about the topic they were asked separately. I felt like I have shown enough knowledge about my idea as I had explored a number of different reasons on how a culture of sport can be related to the topic of identity whilst also showing different clips of football related things whether it be matches or fans in different places and showing this would show that I have investigated into different types of fans and how they view things about football whether it be something about the players or the game itself, how I also think I have shown good knowledge of my idea as I did not know much about the football culture but then doing research and watching numerous videos have given me a good knowledge at how some peoples identity can relate to the culture of football.
This product was a good chance to test my skills at how well I can pull off a well edited video and showing this and seeing how the finished product looks now have given me somethings I can feel achieved by and also somethings that I can learn from, by what I could learn is that I can learn the different equipment that I could have used or learn to know more about the equipment that I did use and examples of this would be the Canon DSLR as this was the main equipment that I had used whilst doing this production and was the most useful when recording different things in different places such as the Stadium of Light and the city of Sunderland, other equipment that I could learn from would be the large amount of tools I could use in premiere pro as that was challenge I eventually overcame but I felt like when I finished this product there were still things I needed to know and master when doing my own edits in the future for when I go to university.
What I think I did well in this production of this final piece was that I showed an extremely good amount of communication when making this as I had help from different people when making this video such as classmates and lecturers and they were a big help as I thought I wouldn't get this fully done and I was shown different tools I could use to make my edit better and when looking at it now, I do think a big factor in this would be the edits done, another part that I think I did well in was the main editing in the video as I showed a good amount of Technical skill as I had a good understanding of what tools that I could use to have a better advantage to get my video finished and posted onto my blog, another example of technical skill that I have shown in my product is that I had a good knowledge of the different programs that I would be using such as premiere pro and photoshop which were two big factors in this production journey and when using these apps, I had a good sense of knowledge of what to use and what tools I had to use to make certain edits possible.
What I think could be improved for this product would be the timing of how I handled things as some parts of this production weren't handled the best and some parts became harder than I thought which was something that needed to be improved and the timing that I could have had on other occasions could've benefitted me much more than the occasions that I had already done certain things in my production. Another thing that I could have improved would be the footage that I could have gotten on different occasions as most of the clips in my video were already exiting content although I did give credit to the creators to avoid plagiarism but there was a reason that I couldn't get most footage done in time for editing as this was a known issue to me but I could resolve that issue with using content on YouTube whilst giving credit and that was what I did and it ended up working well for the video but the footage that I could have used would have been better.
Documentary Feedback
The Feedback I received for this Final piece was answered in 3 separate sections and questions, the questions were "What did you think of the Documentary", "What were the best moments of the film" and finally "What do you think could be improved about the documentary". Firstly, the feedback for this first section of the form was asking the audience on what they thought of the documentary and the responses were all very positive on what they thought about it, ones that caught my eye were comments such as "It was very informative" and "Its extremely professional and I like the different interviews, setup and music" this made me feel like that I had done well in getting the main aspect of my idea out to the audience and that I had used the right techniques to get what I wanted done. The next section was asking the audience what was the best part of the film and the responses I got was good enough to get the idea on what that I had done well and what could be useful when going further on with filming when I go to university, the responses that I felt like were the best ones were comments such as "I liked how you compared the good sides of football to the more negative sides", "I liked the compilations with the voiceovers and the interviews" and "Location Footage", with these comments it made me feel like that I had done a very good job at these certain parts of the documentary and should give myself more credit for doing these things, this also made me feel like that I could more better on these certain parts when focusing on other projects for future uses and when doing these future products, I can remember this feedback as a help for the different types of comments I could receive from other people. Finally the last section mentioned was what did the audience think could be improved about the documentary and this would be a big help as I will be going back and changing somethings that may need changing and the responses I received from this question where mostly the same but it was a good form of information on what I needed to change up and improve, the suggestions were comments such as "Opening takes a while to get through and the shots aren't great", "I think maybe lowering the volume of the music as it is hard to hear people speaking" and "Change the music at the beginning to better fit the tone of the documentary" these were very useful in thinking about what I need to change to finally make my documentary better and with these comments I can get a good idea on what I need to complete and improve my documentary.
Stadium Scene Before
After
After the feedback that I had received helped me a lot in the next process of improvement of my final piece and with these improvements, I was able to fully understand that I had done well enough to suit the audiences feedback and also improve more on what I had previously done. The improvements were things such as making a badge a smaller size to suit the scale of the scene but along with that, I had made a tad improvement on the coloring of the scene by improving the background as their was a bit of red that marked where I was and I made that stand out where as the other parts remained the same and I will show the example of this below but along with that Improvement of that particular scene came the changing of the badge design as I felt like instead of getting the one with the same colour, I got an image of the image but its colour was a black colour and a PNG so it would fit into the background and not have any white in the background of the image.
Other improvements were the music choices of the intro as I was informed that it did not really fit into the main genre of the documentary so by going onto Bensound I looked all over for the right type of music and having a little trouble on finding the correct music was occurring but with the help from a college lecturer, I managed to find the right music type and the song was called Elevate which gave a nice tone when listening to it for a test and with this music found, I uploaded it onto Premiere Pro and shortened the song out so it would fit into the length of the intro and speaking of the intro, that was improved on as well as with some feedback the shots that I took were not very fitting into a football like documentary so by getting some clips from a family member who I had requested to take some at the Wembley game, got me 2 particular clips that would have fitted greatly onto the documentary and when these were uploaded onto their along with the music I made sure to work on the rendering of the clips as they came off a bit blurred which wasn't really a big issue and finally when it was all done, I added some effects onto the clips to make it more well designed and by experimenting I made sure that every clip shown in the intro had a nice fade into the next one which was a good idea when thinking about it and for the music, I made sure to have a nice fade away with it so that it would transition into the scene where I first speak at the camera. Last part of the improvements were the toning of the music particularly for the interviews, with this I made sure to work on the audio effect to fully make sure that the speaking could be heard more of the music and when listening to it, I kept making improvements to make sure that I had a full hearing of the person speaking.
Regional Identity: The Culture of Football (Final Edit)
Final Evaluation of this product
My final thoughts on this production is that I did the best that I could in getting most things done for this final product to be complete and in my general opinion I think I managed it decently but there were things that I could have been better although I did my best not to be too hard on myself to fully complete this task and finish this product for the audience to see and to get my idea across to people. I think I handled somethings well when making this product and those that I did well on would be the interviews for the documentary as those were handled very well and everyone who I interviewed played their part and executed it very well for me to edit them on the video and when rewatching over them whilst applying effects to them, I did notice that some parts of the interviews were very well described when I had asked to the question to the interviewees which was great for the video when it eventually got onto that part. The main challenges for this was getting certain footage to be included and when I successfully managed to get this footage for different parts of the documentary, I did notice that some parts needed to be erased from the clip as it was either due to bad handling with the camera or a mistake that was caused by the settings with the camera but in conclusion it was rather difficult to get footage for different places so I had to rely on content on YouTube. There were many challenges to this production but it was resolved in ways that I think that was an improvement to what I intended to do in the end which was the cause for most of the problems in this production. In the end, I managed to complete this and with it being done, I felt like I had achieved numerous tasks when making this product and having all this done gives me time to go back and maybe improve on somethings that seem like mistakes and it can give me more of a confidence to do more of these videos for when I go to university and having this completed will give me hope in that I have done well and can achieve more things in the future.
